About Us
About NOLZ Limousin
NOLZ Limousin was established in 1982 with the purchase of a purebred Limousin bull to breed to Dave Nolz's black baldy cows. Seeing an immediate improvement in weaning weights and overall performance, we were hooked on "the carcass breed," and made the transition from a commercial cattle operation to a purebred Limousin seedstock business. Our neighbors also noticed a difference in the looks of our calf crops, and we sold our first registered bulls in 1984.
For 40+ years, Dave has selected bulls and females to produce cattle that have excellent calving ease, milking ability, heavy weaning and yearling weights and docility. Consistency in our calf crop and longevity of our bulls and mama cows have also been top priorities. We strive to raise bulls that will perform in any environment. We believe Limousin bulls are the ideal complement to an English-based commercial cowherd that provides a boost of high-bred vigor for extra pounds, performance and muscle that pays on sale day.
Our passion is truly the Limousin breed, but our greatest reward is hearing testimonies from our customers who are also seeing the benefits of using NOLZ Limousin in their programs. After decades in this business, we greatly appreciate all of our customers. Your feedback helps drive our breeding program forward, and our focus will always be on raising bulls that will help meet your production goals!
About Our Family
Dave and Peggy (Wienk) Nolz married in October 1985, and raised three daughters on the ranch -- Amanda, Courtney, and Kaley. Growing up, the girls spent each summer showing our Limousin heifers and steers across the country. It was a great way to spend time together as a family and showcase our breeding program in the public. With our first granddaughter, Scarlett, finally old enough to show, we look forward to our grandkids continuing that fun family tradition in the years to come.
We are honored that all three of our daughters have chosen to land back at home in the Mitchell area. Connected to the farm, community, our church, and the family, we love having a front-row seat to our daughters and the lives they are building here.
Our oldest daughter, Amanda is a speaker, author, consultant, and the host of a podcast called, “The Heart of Rural America,” where she advocates for agriculture, rural America, and family farms and ranches. Her husband, Tyler works as a farm real estate agent for Farmers National Company. They have four kids Scarlett, Thorne, Alex and Croix.
Courtney has an online clothing boutique, Shop CCXO, and flower farm, Three Sisters Blooms. Eliott is a Construction Manager for Puetz Design Build in Mitchell, SD. They have three girls, Holly, Isla, and Carol, and a brand new baby boy, James Joseph, makes four.
Our youngest, Kaley, graduated from South Dakota State University and recently completed her MBA at the University of Sioux Falls while working in the banking industry. She currently collaborates alongside Amanda in agricultural advocacy efforts, is a contract financial bookkeeper, and runs her own small business. Check out her work at KNLZ Designs.
Our faith shapes our business, and it is our prayer that at NOLZ Limousin, every interaction, every sale, every friendship made, and every Limousin calf produced on this operation is a fruitful one. All for the Glory of God!
